VHI has demanded private hospitals cut their charges for all medical procedures by 3% and is also looking to cap the maximum amount any hospital can charge, according to The Sunday Times.

VHI pushed through a similar reduction in 2009. About 70% of the €1.3 billion it pays out annually goes to private hospitals. Any benefits may not flow through directly to the organisation’s members as it remains heavily indebted
