SKY TO LAUNCH 3D CHANNEL IN IRELAND

03
Aug, 2010

Sky is to launch the first 3D television channel in Ireland in October. The channel will be available to subscribers who are using the Sky+HD package. The Sunday Business Post quotes the broadcaster as saying that the Ryder Cup and 3D movies such as Bolt and Monsters And Aliens will be available on the new channel in the first week. Sky said the channel will show primarily a mixture of sport and entertainment, with Premier League football every week and a range of films including Alice In Wonderland and Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince.
The channel will not require an additional subscription or a set-top box upgrade. But viewers will need more than just a pair of 3D glasses to watch the new channel – they will need to invest in a 3D Ready television, if they haven’t already done so. 3D Ready televisions are still at the more expensive end of the market, usually selling for between €1,200 and €2,500.
