REVENUE COMMISSIONER’S APP

Almost 1,000 taxpayers a month are downloading the Revenue’s mobile phone app designed to make it easier to claim tax relief on medical expenses, according to The Sunday Business Post.

Some 9,000 people have downloaded the free app since its launch in June as part of a suite of online initiatives by the Revenue. The app allows PAYE employees to keep tabs on their health expenses by recording them as they occur. The records are organised into medical, dental and nursing home categories for every tax year.

Anyone registered for the Revenue’s online service PAYE Anytime can now also claim for tax reliefs using their mobile phone and any claims for previous years can be sent by iPhone.

The app complements other new ways designed to make it easier to keep on top of tax bills. These include the tax app from the Irish Taxation Institute for the iPhone which allows people to calculate tax liabilities and it also gives a daily summary of tax-related stories being covered in the media.
