INVESTMENT IN THE KING’S SPEECH

07
Mar, 2011

Investors who bankrolled Oscar-winning sensation The King’s Speech are in line for a 25-fold return on their money as the movie is expected to generate as much as €71m profit, The Sunday Times reports.

The film won four Oscars, including best actor for Colin Firth and best picture. The stars of the movie, including Firth and Helena Bonham-Carter, could reportedly expect to share at least €30m.

Meanwhile, The Sunday Independent reports that the market share of home-grown Irish films is now four times what it was in 2009. However, the bad news is that the number of Irish cinemagoers fell nearly 7% last year, despite the arrival of 3D.

Cinemas are now hoping the arrival of Rango, the animation starring Johnny Depp, will help arrest the decline.
