THE ‘SMART ECONOMY’

Feb, 2011

The new government has revealed a central plank of the Smart Economy strategy – apparently, TDs and senators are to receive training on how to use Twitter and Facebook, according to a report in The Sunday Business Post.

Tender documents dispatched by the House of the Oireachtas Services say new TDs will be trained in such leading-edge tweeting skills as “how to write a bio”, “post a picture”, “design your page” and “connect”.

When it comes to Facebook, the skills are even more advanced. They will be taught “how to register”, “the menu bar” and how to understand “your friends page” and “your inbox”.

Perhaps the 50% of politicians who used these services during the election could teach their new colleagues and save the taxpayer a fortune? Now that would be smart!
