TECHNOLOGY JOBS

Salaries in some software and technology companies have jumped 15% recently and The Sunday Business Post reports that Ireland faces a new IT skills shortage.

“At a minimum, we have seen a 10% increase in base salaries,” Hugh McCarthy, an IT jobs recruiter at Brightwater Recruitment told the newspaper. “Bonuses of between 10 and 15% have also come back into play in some software companies.”

Some recruiters are blaming skills shortages on a trend whereby recent graduates chose to do finance rather than IT courses. Skills in short supply include Microsoft-related programming such as DotNet and C++.

“There is an appalling shortage of certain skill sets in IT at the moment,” McCarthy said. “It is quite shocking in the current climate … Companies are really struggling to get competent staff.”
