And just when you thought that having more time on your hands would at least do your handicap the world of good, along comes a survey saying up to 50 more golf courses in Ireland are likely to close over the next three to five years.

The Farrell Grant Sparks report to be presented at the Road to Recovery golf business conference in the Dublin Convention Centre this Friday says 43% of courses are currently under-used but golf clubs only spent an average of 1% of turnover on marketing.

The preview in The Sunday Business Post also says Dermot Desmond will be among those addressing the conference.
